I'm nervous about starting this blog, my first ever. After months of reading many blogs written by part-time and full-time RVers, I decided it was time to take the plunge! We like slow food, slow medicine and especially slow travel. Both of our families would 'go for a ride' as a form of entertainment when we were kids. Our respective families would pile in the car, maybe Mom would pack a lunch. We would drive up into the hills around our respective homes looking for abandoned homesteads, streams to play in, berries to pick. When Dad tired of driving we would go home. We both still consider it a stellar day when we 'go for a ride'.
Jim retired last December after working for county government as a surveyor for 30 years. He's a mellow guy so getting into retirement mode wasn't too difficult for him. Our dog, Ari, and cat, Slim stay close to him all day. My job is stressful and it demands that I practice good self-care...which I don't always do well. I plan to retire December 31, 2014. We hope to be pulling the trailer out of the driveway no later than January 2, 2014!
We just bought a Nash 24M at the Seattle RV Show! We plan to do a lot of boondocking and Jim likes the idea of the off-road chassis on the Nash trailers. Our plan at this time is to go south to Arizona, California, New Mexico and maybe Texas for three to four months during the winter and take shorter trips the remainder of the year. Jim would like to travel to eastern Washington for our first trip with the trailer this spring.
I will be blogging on my iPad. If you have any specific or general pearls of wisdom about blogging, I would appreciate your input. My posts may be sporadic until I retire. In the meantime, take good care and thank you so much for your blogs. I have a difficult time staying in the moment when I read about all the fun you're having out there!
Just found your blog today... Looking forward to more of your writing.... hope you retired as planned and are doing exactly what you want. Is there a place on your blog I can subscribe?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. I'm still tyring to figure out alal the details. I'm going to have to do some editing--I'm going to retire at the end of 2014. But for right now, am doing exactly what I want with an eye toward the future.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading about your days in Costa Rica--it's such a wonderful place.
Hi Dawn! Thanks for following Me and My Dog ...and My RV! How exciting! A brand new blog and future plans to snowbird exactly in the areas I "live." This year will go by so fast, you won't believe it, and having Jim already retired to take care of some of the RVing details will be really helpful. I'm looking forward to hearing more; feel free to contact me if you have questions I might be able to answer. PS - Match.com - boy that brings back memories. I met some great men through that website, but no Keepers. Good for you guys! :) Consider me a Follower!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara! Thank you so much for your comments. Thank you for your offer about questions--I may take you up on that! I feel very fortunate that Jim & I found each other on match.com...I had to kiss a few toads before I found him but it was all worth it!
ReplyDeleteI am joining your rank of followers. My Jim asked me to dance about 28 years ago and that's all she wrote. Glad to have you follow along with us and look forward to your posts about your journey towards retirement.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to see new RV'ers coming along planning & building their dreams. Reminds me so much of ourselves when we first started out back in 06. Soooo exciting.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, Sandie, your comment brings a smile to my face!
